After the success of last year's Lady Shred day, we wanted to fine tune this year's event to include way more park laps and time to dial in riding! Lady Shred weekend is mostly riding and laughing with friends...but you'll be grouped 5:1 with an amazing rider and coach who will inspire you to find your flow and style
Ladies, join the Slaydies crew as we descend upon Arizona's only Lift Access Bike Park for a weekend of shredding, learning, community, and all-around fun! This event will be a great introduction to Sunrise Ski Park if you’ve never been, but if you have; get ready for the most rad experience of being guided down the Sunrise Trails! Regardless of the level you are at, we will have something for everyone at this event. We are focusing less on coaching and more on FUN and FLOW this year. This will be a weekend you DON'T want to miss!
Saturday, August 26th
8:30a-9:00a| Check-in and bike check starts at Base, Coffee + Donuts provided by Action Rideshop
9:00a| Welcome
9:30a-12pm| Shakedown Laps
We will start the weekend off by shaking off the nerves! Participants will be split into groups of 5 like riders and paired with one of our amazing coaches and a talented assistant coach/sweep for a couple warm up/no drop laps down Sunrise's green and blue trails. We will adhere to a 5:1 Head Coach/Participant ratio to allow for maximum learning and fun! These laps will be a great way for coaches to assess riders and help to deliver feedback for each individual rider.
12p-1:00p| BBQ Lunch at Sunrise Lodge (GF/Vegan available)
1:00p-2:15p| Mini Clinics at the Base
Now that riders have had a chance to get comfortable on the mountain, we are going to review/introduce a few skills to help fine tune and help you shred safer and faster! This time with your coach will be perfect to ask questions about XYZ skill and make sure that you have a good understanding of what skills are necessary when riding at a bike park.
2:30-4:00p| Guided Laps + Sessioning
We will finish out the day taking another couple laps being guided by your coach. Riders choice for stopping and sessioning features or sections of trails.
4:00p-5:30p(ish)| Aprés on the Sunrise Lodge Deck Presented by The Shop Beer Co and Shimano
The Shop Beer Co will be supplying beer samples (non-alcoholic available as well) and a grazing table for all to replenish after a fun day of riding. We'll end the evening with a selection of short Shimano Films and a bunch of amazing Shimano swag for those paying attention during the films (AKA there will be a test!)
Sunday, August 27th
8:30a| Morning Yoga Flow at the base with certified yoga instructor Luisa Arias @yogaluf (mats will be supplied for everyone)
9:00a| Welcome/bike check
9:30a-1p| Guided laps +Sessioning
We have 3.5 hours of as many laps as you'd like to take with your coach and group. This will be a great opportunity to work on the skills and items your coach gave you feedback on while maximizing progression with multiple laps.
1:00p-1:30p| Swag bags, Wrap up + Thank you!
1:30p| Sunrise Lady Shred Weekend officially concludes
Riders can decide to continue to ride on the mountain, understanding they will be responsible for their own safety and livelihood while on the trails or you can get a head start in front of traffic to get back home! Rider's choice.

Riders participating in this event need to have taken a fundamentals course, or be comfortable riding their bike on all green and some blue trails at their home trail networks. Participants should come in with an understanding of body positioning, braking, and cornering. These techniques will be reviewed but the goal is to refine them, not teach them from the beginning. If you are unsure if this event/experience is for you, please contact Stefanie.
FAQ
What level rider do I need to be to participate?
This event will cater to all levels of riders, however, we do prefer that riders participating in this even have a baseline understanding of body positioning, can shift and brake under control, and feel comfortable cornering in most circumstances. The mini clinics for this event are meant to build upon and refine concepts and foundations, not teach them from the beginning. If you are unsure, please contact Stefanie!
Can my under 18yo participate?
If you have a child under 18 that fits the description of the rider above this question, YES, however a parent or guardian must be either participating in the event as well or must be onsite at Sunrise during the event both days. If you have any questions, please contact Stefanie.
What if I can only come Saturday?
We would prefer that participants come to both days but understand that some schedules will not allow. We will allow participants to sign up for Saturday-only but the price will still be the same (which is still a killer deal for what you are getting!!) You will be allowed to grab your swag bag on Saturday evening. That said, you have to participate on Saturday to come to Sunday's event. If you are only able to come on Saturday, please note in your sign up form.
Can I bring my family?
To the event, no, but the White mountains is a beautiful escape for the whole family! If you can't get away from your family, you are welcome to bring them to enjoy other activities while you get your shred on! Sunrise has graciously extended a 25% discount for all mountain activities for family members of participants. Beyond lift tickets for both scenic lifts and mountain biking, they have zip lining, rock climbing, and more available. All children under 18 must have a parent or guardian with them at all times.
Are there easy trails? What type of terrain should I expect?
Sunrise is known for a more raw trail riding experience. The terrain is more like backcountry trails instead of typical smooth bike park-esque trails. However, Sunrise Bike Park, along with some amazing Volunteers and the help of Tonto Gravity Riders have been working on expanding Sunrise’s trail options to allow for more green and blue “beginner” friendly options on the mountain. There are options for everyone to have a great time!
What if it rains?
This event will happen rain or shine. We will send out an e-mail a couple days before with the weather forecast and suggestions, but come prepared! Regardless of forecast, White Mountains weather has a mind of its own. A raincoat and extra sets of riding gear is always a good idea. It’s also notable that lightning holds happen a lot in the afternoons at most bike parks. Basically, a 30 minute hold on the lift for every strike within a 20-30 mile radius of the resort. We are going to get the most riding we can in before lunch time, in case we get lighting. Any additional riding we get after lunch is bonus! We have a backup plan for events onsite in case this does happen.
What do I need to wear?
A full face helmet is REQUIRED for this event. Knee pads, elbow pads, full-hand gloves, goggles/glasses are not required but firmly recommended to wear. If you do not have any of this equipment, please ask around or think about purchasing, alternatively the Sunrise Bike Shop does have pad rentals onsite as well. As far as apparel, wear what you normally ride in and you will be comfortable in for a full day on the bike.
What kind of bike do I need?
We recommend riding a trail or Enduro bike with at least 140mm of suspension travel and has disc brakes. If you are unsure if your bike fits this bill, please contact us and we will let you know. Alternatively, Action Rideshop does carry bikes to rent and Sunrise also has demo bikes to rent onsite.
How far is Sunrise, do I need to get lodging?
Sunrise Ski park is located in Greer, Arizona and is a scenic 4-hour drive from Mesa. The resort is offering 'CAMP SLAYDIES' at the Cyclone base for those interested in 'roughin' it' There will be bathrooms in the Cyclone lodge available for use as well. If you want something a little less rustic, there is lodging available in Pinetop/Show low as well https://www.sunrise.ski/summer/downhill-mountain-biking/ We suggest everyone carpool and link up for lodging because what's more fun than a house full of ladies laughing?!
